In our latest CALSAGA blog post we revisited the issue of armed security officers on school campuses, taking a deeper look at the statistics and how they’ve changed since the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy. We also took an opportunity to introduce Sacramento as one of our newest service areas, including our full range of security guard services in the area.
We plan on bringing our same great security and security guard services to Sacramento that have allowed us to build one of the most experienced and affordable networks of armed and unarmed guards in the California. Our local services will include the full scope of commercial and residential security options we’ve been providing in California for more than 25 years.
School Shootings Up In 2013, Off To Bad Start In 2014
In spite of new programs, reforms and police collaboration since the Sandy Hook shooting, there was a significant increase in school shootings in the year that followed (28 in 2013, compared to 10 in 2012, the year of the Newtown tragedy). What’s perhaps more disturbing is that 2014 started with a record pace: the U.S. saw double-digit school shooting numbers just for the month of January alone.
School some school districts have considered hiring armed security guards for elementary school patrols, while others have collaborated with local police departments to put officers on school campuses on a regular basis. This is a trend we expect to see continuing as more and more school districts struggle to find a solution to the issue of gun violence on their campuses.
