Spending money on hiring security guards that aren’t necessary is a financial waste and is not an exercise in good judgement. There are times, though, when a company or business should consider hiring temporary security guards, even if they already have full-time security guards.
Here are some of the main instances:
A Grand Opening
If a retail business is having an advertised grand opening of a store location, hiring temporary security guards, even if it’s just for that event, would be a wise choice. The reason is because, during a grand opening event, there is usually a large amount of people in the store, and the employees in the store may not be used to dealing with so many customers at once. There is also usually little events going on, such as prize giveaway or the handing out of free samples.
A temporary security would be able to make sure that there’s no theft occurring during the grand opening, as well as to make sure that there are no incidents involving the customers. It’s best to make sure that the grand opening is a sign of greater things to come, rather than the store getting started off on the wrong foot right away.
The Dreaded Layoff Day
If a company is planning on laying off many workers during a specific day, it would also be wise to make sure that there’s an extra security guard on the premises. This security guard can help to escort individuals off the premises and to make sure that there are no violent conflicts that can sometimes threaten to develop due to the circumstances of being fired or laid off.
While a company may not think to hire an additional temporary security guard or guards if they already have full-time ones, this is the wrong mentality. The full-time security guard or guards would not be able to provide their normal level of security if they have to escort laid off employees from the premises. This would prevent them from watching over the CCTV, monitoring who enters certain areas, and so forth.
Large Company Events
For large company events, it’s once again wise to hire temporary security guards. Some of these company events can be:
- Holiday Parties;
- Open House;
- Product Launches;
- Board Meetings;
- Shareholder Meetings.
Temporary security guards can provide extra protection that will be a big part of the event proceeding smoothly and as planned. Since many company events garner some level of attention from the press, even locally, it’s not worth risking the bad publicity that accompanies some sort of incident.
