General Overview of Woodland, California

Woodland is located in Yolo County, California and is the county seat of Yolo County. Its quite close to the City of Sacramento, which is only 15 miles southeast of it. In addition, its included in the Sacramento – Arden-Arcade – Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Currently, the population is 55,468. This is a decent-sized increase from 2000, in which it was 49,151.

Having a total area of 15.303 square miles, this gives it a population density of 3,600 people per square mile, which is typical given the population size of the city.

Woodland has an extensive history. A year after the State of California became an official state in 1850, Yolo County was also officially formed. On part of current-day Woodland, particularly First and Clover Streets, “Uncle Johnny” Morris settled there, leading to Henry Wyckoff arriving  just two years afterwards. Wyckoff ran a store that he called Yolo City.

However, thanks to the efforts and vision of Frank S. Freeman, Yolo City eventually became known as Woodland. That’s because he bought the Yolo City store, as well as 160 acres of land, with the desire to make the area into a crop-growing area. In 1861, the Woodland Post Office was formed.

During the 1860s, Woodland experienced significant growth, having the county seat moved to it, starting the construction of a rail line, and expanding in all directions.

By 1871, Woodland was officially incorporated thanks to the grassroots efforts of its residents.

It continued to thrive, but experienced much of its growth after World War II during the post-war era in America. During the three decades after World War II, its population more than tripled and so did the wealth of its citizens.

Many historians believe that Woodland had the most millionaires per capita in all of California at one point during the 1950s.

Woodland is actually a fairly young city. The median age of its population is 33.7 years. Though its right in line with the State of California’s median of 33.3 years, it’s below the national median age of 37.2 years.

Only 36% of its population is aged 45 years and older.

Woodland’s median household income is $54,141, a far cry from its millionaire status in the 1950s. It is just about an average median household income, as the State of California’s average is $58,328 and the national average is $53,046.

The downside of Woodland is its crime rate. Its crime rate index is 14, meaning that it’s safer than only 14% of all cities in the United States.

There is a 1 in 202 chance of being a victim of a violent crime in Woodland compared to the State of California’s average of 1 in 249.

With property crimes, there’s a 1 in 29 chance of being a victim in Woodland, while the State of California has a 1 in 38 chance overall.

First Security understands the security needs of Woodland and Yolo County in general and will be able to provide the very best in security services.

First Security Services can provide security guards that can be on the premises during working hours, especially when it gets busy, as well as to provide after hours security if needed.
  • Points of Interest Security: There are some main points of interest in Woodland. It has a thriving downtown area that is extremely popular with residents. It also hosts the Yolo County Fair once a year during August. This event is very fun, but it can get a little dangerous at times if some of the visitors get intoxicated. First Security Services can make sure that all of the patrons enjoy themselves. Other points of interest are the Woodland Opera House and the Yolo County Historical Museum.
  • Cannabis security plans

By hiring First Security, companies, organizations, and institutions, both of the private and public variety, will be able to ensure that they’re provided professional protection in regards to:
